“Humble yourself before the gravitas of doing humanities in a time of fascism.” — this is a word and a necessary reminder. thank you.

Thank you for this. I finished my PhD (English, certs in Africana and Gender Studies) 2 years ago. I’ve read this twice, and I’m sure I will be back to read it again and then one more time.

I’m planning out my annual personal learning syllabus as I contemplate on my hesitations around returning to grad school and this post was right on time! The part the importance of reading as being in community and communion with the kin-group of scholars the author comes from is gold - reading Black feminist writers in this way has been so transformative. Thank you for this reminder that good scholarship can happen outside learning institutions. 🤎
